Reigning premier Lakes Entrance has suffered a setback in its Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant campaign, going down to Bairnsdale in the qualifying final at the Bairnsdale Bowling
Club on Monday.
Bairnsdale created a decisive break through the middle stages of the contest, with Lakes Entrance unable to reel in the margin and eventually falling 60-54.
Lakes Entrance’s only winning rink was the competition’s leading quartet of Kevin Brown, Jack Light, Bill Rowley and Wallace Mason, which secured a 23-20 victory.
Despite the loss, Lakes Entrance remains in the premiership hunt and will meet the winner of Sale and Stratford in the preliminary final on February 24.
In division two, Lakes Entrance 3s season came to an end after a 61-48 defeat to Bairnsdale at home in a sudden-death preliminary final. The only winning rink for Lakes Entrance 3 was Dawin Irwin, Joseph Hales, Charles Lesiw and Greg Bertram, which prevailed 14-11.
