Disappointment continued for Lakes Entrance in “B” grade Bairnsdale Cricket Association cricket, dismissed for just 60 against West Bairnsdale as their losing streak extended to seven matches.
The Seagulls won the toss and batted in their round 14 clash against finals contender West Bairnsdale at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve. After a promising opening stand of 18 between skipper Brett Boyd (12) and Jacob Daly, the innings quickly unravelled. Michael Poynton (13) and Ryan Summerton (14) added some stability in the middle order, taking the score from 3/22 to 50, before the final six wickets fell for just 10 runs. Archer Watt finished with 5/12 from only four overs for West.
Lakes Entrance’s bowling again outshone their batting, with West eventually reaching their target in the 13th over for the loss of three wickets, led by 27 from Sam Watts. Poynton was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/9.
The Seagulls are currently 10th on the ladder but will look to improve this week against ninth-placed St Mary’s Nagle at Nagle College.
Better news came from the under 13s, with both Lakes Entrance sides recording wins last Friday night. Lakes Maroon defeated Orbost at St Brendan’s, with Chloe Walker (2/5) and John Parkhill named players of the match. Meanwhile, Lakes Entrance White (6/71) beat Bruthen Red (2/69) at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve, with Chad Richardson awarded player of the match.
This week, the Maroon side will take on Metung Swan Reach at Swan Reach, while the White team travels to Orbost Community College to face Orbost.
