The recent hot weather has certainly dried out the Lakes Entrance golf course, resulting in plenty of high scores over the past week.
Despite the conditions, player enthusiasm remains strong, with impressive numbers teeing off at every event.
Last Saturday’s event attracted a massive field of 122 players. In “A” grade, David Hatt claimed victory with 42 points off his 12-handicap. Bradley Hayllar (41 points) took “B” grade, Gerard Kelly (40 points) won “C” grade, and Greg Bull (41 points) topped “D” grade. The unluckiest player of the round was “D” grader Robert Taylor, who scored 40 points but missed out on a prize.
Ladies club champion Renee Percival
also had a strong round, posting 38 points off her eight-handicap and claiming two nearest-the-pin wins. Young Hunter
Douglass continued his impressive form, scoring 39 points, with his handicap now down to just 11.
Wednesday’s event drew 33 players and was dominated by popular octogenarian Nola McKenna, who recorded a sensational 46 points. Daughter-in-law Karen took “A” grade honours with 37 points.
Thursday’s medley stableford attracted 86 players, with “D” grade golfer Gary Vick winning with 43 points off a 29-handicap. Other grade winners were Barry Brand (36 points, “A” grade), Brett Dostine (39 points, “B” grade) and Peter Flahive (42 points, “C” grade). “C” grader John Timmermann was the unlucky player of the round, scoring 41 points but claiming no prize.
Presentations were also finalised for the ladies Summer Cup. Ruth McPhee secured the title with 116 points, followed closely by Katrina Fearnley (112), Hayley Cotton (111) and Sandi East (110).
