As students return to school this week, drivers are being urged to slow down and stay alert in school zones.
East Gippsland Shire reminds motorists that the start of the school year is a key time to be aware of increased traffic during drop-off and pick-up periods. After the holidays, it can be easy to forget how busy school zones become, so road users are encouraged to be patient, stay focused, and observe reduced speed limits designed to protect children.
Speed limits around schools are reduced to 40 km/h from 8–9.30am and 2.30–4pm on school days. Drivers are also reminded to park legally and follow all signage to help create a safer environment.
School crossing supervisors are back on duty at 16 locations across the shire, helping students cross safely.
Parents are encouraged to remind children to STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! THINK! before crossing the road.
