Ultimate Frisbee will make its debut in Lakes Entrance next month, with weekly sessions set to run on Tuesday nights from February 3 at Lakes Secondary College.
The sessions will be held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and are open to newcomers keen to try the fast-paced, inclusive team sport.
Often described as a cross between netball and American football, Ultimate Frisbee is played using a flying disc, with teams working together to pass the disc down the field and score by catching it in the end zone.
The sport is non-contact and self-refereed, placing responsibility on players to uphold safety, fairness and respect for teammates and opponents alike. Qualified instructors will be on hand to explain the basic rules, skills and game play, making the sessions suitable for beginners of all ages.
Participants can play in flat-soled shoes or barefoot, and no prior experience is required.
The program is fully subsidised through Gippsport and Ultimate Victoria, removing cost barriers and encouraging community participation.
Organisers hope the introduction of Ultimate Frisbee will provide another fun and accessible sporting option for locals, promoting fitness, teamwork and social connection.
