A Maffra man has been charged with murder following a fatal assault in the town earlier this week. Homicide Squad detectives confirmed this afternoon that a 45-year-old Maffra man has been charged with one count of murder in relation to the death of a 63-year-old local man. The charge follows an incident on Monday, January 19, when emergency services were called to a Mills Street address about 12pm after reports a man had been found unresponsive. The 63-year-old man was treated at the scene but was unable to be revived.
Police believe the two men were known to each other.
The accused appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court late Thursday.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
