Inclement weather late last week washed out Lakes Entrance Cricket Club’s “A” grade home fixture against Lindenow South Glenaladale.
Strong winds blew the covers off the wicket and persistent drizzle prevented the pitch from drying, leaving no opportunity for play. Both sides were awarded two points
from the match.
As a result, Wy Yung (52) has now moved to the top of the table on percentage from the Bulls after another victory, this time over St Mary’s Nagle. The Seagulls remain in sixth place with three matches to play, all two-day fixtures.
Lucknow (36) has moved to third, West Bairnsdale (34) is fourth, and Orbost (30) has dropped to fifth, ahead of Lakes (28) and Paynesville (24).
All sides will enjoy a weekend off this week for the Australia Day long weekend. The Seagulls are set to face St Mary’s Nagle (away), Paynesville (away), and Orbost (home) in the final rounds of the season.
While the fixture is challenging, there are opportunities to collect points against sides with comparable or
struggling line-ups.
To make the finals, the Seagulls will need to win all three matches — a tough ask, given they have yet to win consecutive matches this season. They will need to peak at exactly the right time, and while it is not impossible, luck will have to be on their side.
