Parts of East Gippsland and regional Victoria continue to face ongoing fire activity, with residents and volunteers coping with stress, uncertainty and loss.
Local authorities have extended their thoughts to those displaced, on alert, and to the many volunteers working tirelessly across multiple fire fronts.
East Gippsland Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth acknowledged the recent extreme heat and heightened fire risk in a community message, praising the collective efforts of residents, volunteers, organisations and council staff in preparing for and responding to these conditions.
She also emphasised the importance of checking in on one another and seeking support when needed.
Council staff are supporting emergency management efforts by assisting in Incident Control Centre coordination, liaising closely with emergency agencies, and maintaining an up-to-date emergency dashboard to provide residents with a one-stop source of local information.
Residents are urged to rely on official updates from Emergency Management Victoria via VicEmergency for current warnings, advice and instructions.
Recognising the emotional impact of fire, particularly for those affected by the 2019–20 bushfires, the council reminded residents that support is available.
Anyone needing assistance can contact Lifeline on or Beyond Blue.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed, review fire plans, and be ready to act if conditions change.
Council has extended heartfelt thanks to volunteers, emergency responders and support crews working across the state, emphasising solidarity with regional Victorians as they navigate the challenges of the current fire emergency.
