Sale trainers dominated the Woolamai picnic meeting last Saturday, claiming four of the six races on the card.
Troy Kilgower led the way with a training double, taking his season’s tally on the circuit to 11 wins, just four behind leader Don Dwyer. Kilgower, last year’s title winner, struck with Sierra Sun ($2.70) in the 2000-metre maiden, ridden by Sebastian Galea, and Flower Gallery ($3.30) in the 1000-metre maiden, with Leigh Taylor in the saddle.
Riding honours went to Angela Bence, who also notched a double while teaming with fellow Sale trainers Sharyn Trolove and Kerry Farrugia. Trolove and Bence combined with The Cruiser ($4.40) in the 1000-metre trophy race, holding off Wunambal ($16), trained by Rob Gillahan, and Irresistible Sir ($8), making his first run for Reg Manning. Wunambal showed promising improvement from his first-up run at the Sapphire Coast, while Irresistible Sir looks capable of claiming a similar race in coming weeks.
Bence completed her double when she guided Box Vale ($9.50) to victory in the final 1600-metre race.
Kilgower settled for third and fourth spots with Houidini Catrno and Silver Springs, rounding out a strong day for Sale-trained runners.
