The Lakes Entrance Cricket Club “B” grade side was outplayed by Metung Swan Reach at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve last weekend, dashing late-season finals hopes for the home team.
The visitors batted first after winning the toss and posted 176 all out in the 32nd over, with skipper Sam Tindley-Roe top scoring with an aggressive 74 from 52 balls, including 13 boundaries.
Significant contributions also came from Brendan Fiedler (39) and Blake Herridge (18 not out).
Despite the Swans’ mid-innings collapse at 5/62, the Seagulls were unable to take advantage.
For Lakes Entrance, the standout bowlers were James Daly (3/30) and Laurie Thomson (3/37), but the Seagulls’ batting line-up faltered, losing eight wickets for just 31 runs. Only skipper Jacob Daly (38) and Thomson (15 not out) reached double figures.
Fiedler’s brilliant 5/15 from eight overs earned him man of the match, while Jacob Cormack (2/19) and Herridge (2/14) also impressed.
The Seagulls now turn their attention to a one-day clash against Paynesville at AJ Freeman Reserve this week.
The club’s under 13 sides are set to resume play on Friday, January 30.
