THUMBS DOWN: To a local venue for not taking criticism and having a sook and posting it on Facebook to embarrass people. Maybe just take the criticism and move on. It makes you look petty.
THUMBS UP: A very big thank you to the two lovely men who came to my aid on Monday, December 22 when I tripped over the uneven footpath in Flinns Road. After a trip to the doctors, five stitches and a tetanus injection and new frames for my sunglasses, I’m all well. Thank you both once again, I really appreciated your kindness.
THUMBS UP: To the team behind the new Omeo Mountain Bike Park. It has been a long time coming, but what an incredible asset for the High Country. It is fantastic to see the town buzzing with visitors and locals enjoying the trails.
THUMBS DOWN: To the decision-makers regarding the Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool. Seeing such a historic community asset sitting empty and neglected as the weather heats up is a disgrace. Listen to the ratepayers and get it fixed.
THUMBS UP: To the Bairnsdale posties and delivery drivers. You have been working tireless hours to ensure our Christmas parcels arrived on time, often dealing with crazy traffic and loose dogs. We appreciate the hustle!
THUMBS DOWN: To the impatient drivers on the Princes Highway near Lakes Entrance. We know it’s the busy season, but tailgating and overtaking on double lines won’t get you there any faster. Everyone wants to arrive alive.
THUMBS UP: To the volunteers who organised the Orbost Christmas Eve Festival. It is events like these that keep the spirit of our small towns alive. A wonderful night for the families in the district.
THUMBS DOWN: To campers leaving their rubbish behind in our state forests and along the Mitchell River. If you can bring it in, you can take it out. Don’t ruin our beautiful backyard for the locals who actually respect it.
THUMBS UP: To the local police for their strong stance on fire safety this season. With the heat picking up, we cannot afford to be complacent. The message “if you light it, you own it” needs to sink in for everyone visiting the region.
THUMBS DOWN: To the mozzies in Paynesville. You can’t even step outside for a barbecue without being carried away. Hopefully, the conditions improve before the Classic Boat Rally rolls around!
