As part of ongoing community safety initiatives across East Gippsland, the Local Safety Committee, Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association, East Gippsland Shire, Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce,
and Victoria Police have worked collaboratively to install clear footpath markings in the Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale CBDs.
The new signage and pavement markings are designed to reinforce that e-scooters and e-bikes are not permitted on footpaths, helping to protect pedestrians and reduce the risk of accidents.
The initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve safety and accessibility in busy town centres, ensuring that all road users — including cyclists, scooter riders, and motorists — are aware of the rules and can navigate the streets safely.
The markings have been strategically placed near high pedestrian traffic
areas such as shopping precincts, schools, and public transport hubs.
Victoria Police will also continue to monitor compliance, providing education and guidance to riders
while encouraging safe riding habits.
