Lakes Entrance was outplayed in “B” grade last Saturday by West Bairnsdale during Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) round 10 action at Bairnsdale City Oval.

Batting first the undermanned Seagulls were dismissed for 96 in 29 overs.

Opener Jacob Daly (35) and son James (20), who batted at three, scored the majority of the runs.

In reply, West cruised to victory finishing 0/100 off just 15 overs.

The Seagulls currently sit eighth on the ladder, with two wins, four losses and four no-results.

Lakes’ next match is on January 10 at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve against Metung Swan Reach.

Lakes Entrance White has claimed the bragging rights over Lakes Entrance Maroon for the second time this year in the BCA under 13 competition.

The next generation of Seagull stars did battle at the Lakeside Oval last Friday, with the White side winning the toss and making 6/97 from its 20 over allocation.

Ben Calleja top scored with a brilliant 16 retired, with skipper Jesse Downing making 15, and tailender, Jackson Lawrence finishing on 12 not out, courtesy of three well struck boundaries.

Single wicket takers for the Maroons included John Parkhill and Declan Bills, while some great fielding from Mack Anderson and Zachary Matthews resulted in well executed run outs.

In reply, the Maroon team closed at 7/86 after its 20 overs, with two wickets each for the Whites to Oliver James Mongan, Chad Richardson and Thomas Hayes.

Downing set a great example for his side with a sharp run out.

The next round of matches in the under 13 competition is on January 30.

Lakes White will host Wy Yung at St Brendan’s, with Lakes Maroon taking on Bruthen Black at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve.
