The foothills of the Victorian High Country are set to glow this December 31 as the town prepares for Buchan Lights Up, a major New Year’s Eve celebration.
Proudly presented by the Buchan Business and Tourist Association (BBTA) and Buchan Presents, the event promises to be a highlight of the summer season for both locals and visitors.
Hosted at the historic Buchan Caves Hotel, the festivities will kick off at 6pm. Crowd favourites Xtra Cover are slated to provide the soundtrack for the night, playing live from 8 pm until the early hours of 2026.
The night’s main attractions are two spectacular fireworks displays provided by Blackforrest Fireworks. A family-friendly show will light up the sky at 9pm, followed by the traditional countdown display at midnight.
To ensure public safety during the event, a temporary road closure will be in place on the service road directly outside the hotel from 4pm until 1am.
Adding a special community touch, organisers have launched a children’s colouring competition. One or two lucky winners will be granted the rare honour of joining the pyrotechnics team to “let off” a firework during the display.
Entry forms are currently available at the Buchan Caves Hotel, Buchan Primary School, and Buchan Kindergarten.
