Sun Cinema Bairnsdale gearing up for summer season

in Local News

The holiday movie season has officially kicked into high gear at Sun Cinema Bairnsdale, with a massive lineup of sequels, musicals, and family favourites drawing crowds to Macleod Street.

Leading the charge is the highly anticipated musical event Wicked: For Good, continuing the magical journey of Elphaba and Glinda.

It is screening daily, with multiple sessions ensuring locals can catch the defying-gravity action.

Families are well-catered for with the release of Zootopia 2, the follow-up to Disney’s smash hit, and the younger ones can enjoy a festive treat with A Paw Patrol Christmas, showing in select morning slots.

Horror fans are also lining up for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which is screening throughout the week, promising plenty of jump scares for the brave.

The biggest news for local film buffs is the upcoming preview of Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Bairnsdale audiences will have a chance to return to Pandora early, with a special preview screening scheduled for Wednesday, December 17.

This third instalment in James Cameron’s epic saga is expected to be one of the summer’s biggest hits.

Also hitting the screens from Thursday, December 11, is the star-studded comedy Ella McCay.

Looking ahead to Boxing Day, the cinema has locked in a slate of crowd-pleasers including the reboot of the cult classic Anaconda and the animated adventure The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants.

Current session highlights:

Wicked: For Good (PG): Screening daily. Sessions include 1pm and 3.40pm (Wednesday), 3.15pm and 8.15pm (Friday), and 10.45am, 1.30pm and 6.30pm (Sunday).

Zootopia 2 (PG): Major daily screenings. Catch it at 12.20pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm (Wednesday), with five sessions running on Saturday including a 6pm twilight show.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (M): Screening daily, with late sessions available on Friday and Saturday nights (9pm/9.10pm).

Eternity (M): A thoughtful drama option with sessions including a “Baby Session” on Wednesday morning at 10am.

Ticket information

Moviegoers are reminded that “No Free Tickets” (NFT) restrictions apply to most new releases, particularly after 5pm on Saturdays.

Locals are encouraged to book online to secure seats for these high-demand holiday sessions.

For the full list of session times and to book tickets, visit the Sun Cinema Bairnsdale website.
