Hawthorn has selected father-daughter draftee Maya Dear with pick 57 in the 2025 Telstra AFL Women’s Draft on Monday.
Dear will follow in the footsteps of her late father Paul, who played 123 games for the brown and gold, including winning the Norm Smith Medal in the Hawks’ 1991 premiership win.
Paul Dear is a former coach of the Lakes Entrance Football Netball club.
Maya, 21, is Hawthorn’s first-ever father-daughter selection and will also join her younger brother Calsher at the Kennedy Community Centre in Dingley.
With a background in basketball and netball, Dear most recently played NBL 1 with Sandringham Sabres.
She is strong and powerful, with an athletic build, allowing her to play multiple different positions, with good hands and great marking ability.
She will be a player to watch in 2026.
