Mosaic Elite Health in Lakes Entrance is a unique community hub which, since opening, has grown into an all-abilities go-to.
Located at the old Cinema Centre, it houses a huge assortment of activities, with the latest big news being that movies are back at the cinema.
Each Friday night a feature film is presented and members of the public are welcome to attend.
The original kiosk has been updated and staff are ready to serve all the favourites, offering a special package of popcorn, a can of soft drink and movie admission for $15.
“At the moment we are doing reruns, but in 2026 we hope to screen new movies,” chief executive officer Mistee Royal-Goehner said.
“We are family oriented and last Friday we had some groups come and enjoy The Polar Express. There will be another Christmas movie this Friday night. Over the January holiday period there will be movies on Friday and Saturday nights, with hopes to extend this to four nights a week.”
Birthday party packages are also available, including face painting, dance disco sessions, art therapy and a movie, with a minimum booking of 10 people.
Mosaic Elite Health is an inclusive space for all abilities and supports several key health and community outcomes.
Its vocational skills development programs, such as the Odd Jobs Supported Employment Program and the Men’s Shed model, offer practical skills in trades including metalwork, woodwork, automotive and micro-business, creating pathways for meaningful employment.
Physical and mental health programs include structured classes in boxing, boxercise, dance, cheerleading, hydrotherapy, lifestyle cooking, yoga and boot camp, complemented by dedicated hygiene programs focusing on self-care and cleanliness.
Social connection and engagement are encouraged through participation groups and regular centre-based activities such as cinema, games, art, digital design, money skills, budgeting, song and poetry writing, IT skills, cooking, bike and road safety, and 3D art, promoting strong social bonds and connection to the broader East Gippsland region.
Mosaic Health continues to evolve and has recently expanded to include a Bairnsdale venue on Bosworth Road, offering activities such as woodwork and metalwork. The space is open to everyone in the community and is led by qualified tradespeople.
“We also have a year 10 career directions program with a local school and have started a group with East Gippsland Youth, working with young people who have not returned to school since COVID-19,” Mistee said.
“We run micro-businesses, financial management and life skills programs.
“We like to give back to the community as they helped us, and we draw inspiration from that.”
Café staff member Shelby Derbyshire said she loves being involved with Mosaic Elite Health and describes it as being like a family.
“Everyone gets along so well. I am trying new things and learning new things, and I really enjoy doing customer service,” Shelby said.
Coming from a background of hardship, Mistee and her partner West hope to show people from all walks of life that change is possible.
“We are here for this community as a beacon of hope and change,” Mistee said.
“We stand strong in wanting to be an example for people from all walks of life that they can change their lives. We want to be the change and give hope to parents of children suffering from addiction, showing that better choices are possible.
“We are eager to hear ideas and suggestions. Come and have a coffee, a chat and celebrate with us.”
