Popular educator, Jenny Allitt has retired at TAFE Gippsland, after an almost three-decade career. (PS)

Beloved educator and mentor to many, Jenny Allitt has retired from a career spanning almost three decades at TAFE Gippsland.

Jenny began her journey at the East Gippsland Institute of TAFE as a lab technician in the Natural Resource Management department, where she curated animal specimens under special licence from the Melbourne Museum.

Whether preparing skulls and skins brought in by the public (often roadkill!) or supporting Conservation and Land Management courses, Jenny’s deep knowledge of native fauna and water ecosystems made her an invaluable asset.

Her expertise in water quality and invertebrate studies enriched countless student experiences, and her involvement in VDSS Maritime programs showcased her versatility and commitment to education.

In 2014, Jenny was seconded to the Animal Studies program to support its growing student base in Bairnsdale and Sale.

Jenny then stepped up to lead classes solo, demonstrating her resilience and dedication. She continued to guide students until her retirement, always bringing her unique blend of strength, warmth, and unwavering support.

Jenny’s passion for marine life led her to author two books, a testament to her love for the ocean and her desire to inspire others.

Her legacy is not only found in the curriculum she shaped but in the lives she touched—students who found their calling through her guidance, and colleagues who were uplifted by her presence.

A truly one-of-a-kind teacher, Jenny could growl when needed, yet always remained kind and supportive, especially to those who needed it most.

Her impact on the VET DSS cohort in East Gippsland has been profound, and her absence will be deeply felt.

As Jenny embarks on her well-earned retirement, TAFE Gippsland extends its heartfelt thanks for her years of service, her wisdom, and her unwavering spirit.

She leaves behind a legacy of care, curiosity, and inspiration that will continue to ripple through our halls for years to come.
