Dear Editor,- It was refreshing to read your article on former members of Bairnsdale Apex who meet on a yearly basis to recall past memories and catch up.
I was a member of Apex, which is a great organisation for young men whose employment required them to move around Victoria.
It was not only a service organisation but also a social gathering, particular for young wives in distant communities to get established wherever they were with like-minded young adults before moving on to another challenge in employment.
I first joined Apex when I was transferred in the ANZ Bank from Bairnsdale to Corryong. From there I transferred to Apex in Warrnambool, Alexandra, Kerang and Maryborough where I had to leave at the 40-year age limit.
I then spent three years with Lions in Clunes, another great organisation.
I wonder whether there other “young men” in Bairnsdale who were in Apex in other towns, but not Bairnsdale who would like to meet also.
Perhaps the Bairnsdale group could accomodate us.
Finishing with our invocation, For Good Food, Good Fellowship and the Privilege to Serve we give thanks.
Yours etc.,
Laurie Marlin.
