In the battle of the competition’s second and third-ranked teams, Lakes Entrance was too good for Bairnsdale at home in Gippsland Bowls Region premier league weekend pennant last Saturday.
The victory sees Lakes trail ladder leader Sale only by percentage, well poised to mount a challenge for premiership glory.
Daniel Roberts, Daffy Rawlings, Wayne Jones and Brendan Addison bounced back after a rare glitch last week, convincing 25-14 winners, well supported by Bradley Lancaster, Jim Northe, Kevin Brown and Stephen Smith who continued their resurgence with a 21-14 victory.
It was a great result for Lakes in division one with both sides having impressive wins, maintaining their spots at the top of the ladder.
Lakes Entrance 2 continues to hold on to top spot, returning from Bairnsdale with a 65-48 victory over the competition’s fourth-placed team, Bairnsdale 3.
Impressive wins came from Wayne Denning, Kevin Watson, Jack Light, Wallace Mason (23-12) and Mike McKay, Boyd McPhee, Kevin Dowie and Harley Johnson (25-18), setting up the victory.
Lakes Entrance 3 was just as convincing, proving too good for Bairnsdale 2 at home, a big winner 60-43.
The performance of Lynton Rathjen, Geoffrey Rawlings, Mark Elliott and Samuel Berlingeri (26-9) set up the victory, while Ian Morris, Adrian Culph, Tom Rowe and Sharon Hall made it five wins from six outings, successful 17-15.
Top spot on the table will be up for grabs this week when the sides go head-to-head.
In division two, Lakes Entrance 4 continues to occupy top spot on the table, successful on the road last week 38-27 over a gallant Bairnsdale.
Winning combinations were Joseph Hales, Roy Roberts, William Gilbert, Charlie Abela (20-13) and Ryan Dobson, Christine Piatek, Bob Lucas and Tony Spink (18-14).
A disappointing defeat to the previously winless Bruthen saw Lakes Entrance 5 drop from second to third on the ladder, going down 44-33, while in division three, Lakes Entrance 6 went down to Bairnsdale 58-16.
