Another huge week of golf at the Lakes Entrance
Golf Club was highlighted by the club hosting day two and three of the Gippsland Lakes Classic last Tuesday and Wednesday.
The classic began at Bairnsdale on Monday with the first of the two-day stableford tournament, the second day played on Tuesday at Lakes Entrance, as was Wednesday’s Canadian foursomes stableford championship day.
“A” grade winner of the classic was South Pines’ Trudie Nagle, with Churchill Waverley’s Kaye Pittman successful in “B” grade, Rosedale’s Kerry Mulligan in “C” grade and Beaconhills’ Teresa Nagle taking “D” grade.
In a huge result, the Canadian foursomes championship was taken out by local players Jacinta Wilson and Katrina Fearnley, using their local knowledge to advantage.
On the local scene last week, Justin Gray (“A” grade) and Allan Taylor (“B” grade) led the field home in Ruthless and Toothless, Gray also winning the putting.
Last Thursday’s medley stableford event attracted 76 players with “C” grade member Geoff Dobbin having a day out with 43 points.
Gary Watson impressed taking “A” grade, while Ashley Chester snared “B” grade on countback.
Numbers are building on Saturdays with 97 players teeing up for a stableford round across the men’s and women’s events.
John Melrose was to the fore winning “C” grade and overall with a sensational 43 points. His nearest
challenger was “B” grade winner, Glen Byrnes, who finished with 39 points, with Neil Howell taking “A” grade on countback.
In the women’s, the remarkable Nola McKenna continues to defy age, winning from Sue Toseland on countback after they both impressed with 41 points.
The consistent Renee Percival was close to her best taking “A” grade with 37 points.
