This summer, the Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) is planning a new series of free, family-friendly Saturday events designed to bring locals and visitors together for simple, relaxed community fun on the foreshore.
The Lakes Entrance “Summer of Family Fun” will run across selected Saturday afternoons and evenings in late December and January, offering a changing mix of twilight activities. While the final weekly schedule will evolve based on available volunteers, community partners and free activity ideas, families can expect a welcoming atmosphere filled with laughter, music and light-hearted entertainment for all ages.
“Our goal is to create easy, joyful summer moments for families,” LEADA president Sharen Cameron said.
“We want this to be a relaxed, community-driven series where everyone can contribute, whether that’s by volunteering, suggesting activities, or simply coming along.”
LEADA’s draft program includes possibilities such as face painting, inflatable games, a petting farm, lawn games, live music, and a playful return to the spirit of the Duck Cup.
“While the format will depend on volunteers and resources each week, the concept is to bring fun to the foreshore in creative, low-cost ways.”
Some of the light-hearted Duck-based ideas being explored include a small “Lucky Duck Draw” with 10 racing ducks, egg-and-duck novelty races, duck relays, or even a cheeky duck-stealing competition for kids.
“These are starting points.
The final activities will be shaped by community input and volunteer capacity, with the emphasis on keeping everything free, simple, and fun,” Sharen said.
LEADA invites local businesses interested in sponsoring an activity or contributing a small feature to get involved. Community groups are also encouraged to host a Saturday session, share an idea, or run an activity that fits the family-friendly theme. All suggestions for additional free activities are welcome.
To help bring the program to life, LEADA is also seeking volunteers. Whether someone can help for an hour, assist once during the summer, or participate across several weeks, every contribution helps. Roles may include helping families with activities, greeting families, setting up simple equipment, assisting with music, or supporting games and novelty races. It’s a relaxed, inclusive way to be part of a community project that brings joy to local families.
As the schedule will evolve based on contributions and partnerships, LEADA will publish updates on its website and Facebook on the final activity list closer to each event.
The intention is for the “Summer of Family Fun” to grow into a much-loved seasonal tradition that is shaped by the community, for the community.
