Having delayed this year’s President’s Trophy Competition until the second half of the year, it proved advantageous for the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club, blessed with beautiful weather for the 10 members who participated in the event.
The annual competition was spread over two mornings last Wednesday and Thursday, and as it a handicap event it was held in two sections initially, with a knockout final to declare the winner.
Section one was taken out by Corry Schreuders who won all four games ahead of John Mitchell. whose only loss was to Schreuders.
In division two, Geoff Webb closely edged out Lynley Mitchell by two hoops, after both players won three games and had one loss.
Several social members, along with the players who competed, watched Webb and Schreuders play the knockout final with the former having three extra turns on handicap.
Webb started well, however Schreuders caught up to take the game to the 13th hoop which was fiercely contested by both players, Schreuders eventually running the last hoop.
Club president Neil Robbins presented the President’s Trophy to Schreuders and he congratulated all members who participated this year.
Schreuders is excelling in his skills of golf croquet, recently taking out first place in section two of the Bairnsdale Croquet Club’s annual singles tournament.
With the club championships for 2025 concluded, members are looking forward to competing in the Elaine Hancock Memorial Trophy on November 16.
Lakes Entrance Croquet Club always welcomes anyone in the community who would like to become familiar with the game of golf croquet.
Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday morning are the usual play days, however, Wednesday is more preferable for anyone wishing to experience and see what the game is all about.
