Lakes Entrance scored it’s first win of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association

“B” grade season thanks to a Mick Poynton masterclass at the Lakes Entrance

Recreation Reserve.

Set 201 for victory by Lucknow from 40 overs, Poynton blasted his second club century, a slashing 103 from just 71 balls, including 11 boundaries and five sixes.

Poynton brought up victory and his century at the beginning of the 37th over in an exciting run chase.

He got great support

from Jacob Daly (32), Brett Boyd (36) and Tully Davis who made 22 not out,

sharing in an unbeaten

74-run partnership with the rampant Poynton.

Earlier the Seagulls had fought back strongly after the Magpies appeared to be cruising at 2/123.

The major wicket takers were Eddie Di Fiore (2/38) and Daly (2/13).

Both under 13 sides played some outstanding cricket, with the White side impressive winners and the Maroon side not disgraced in defeat.

The White side batted first at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve, making 4/49 from its 20 overs, before doing an outstanding job to restrict Bruthen Red to 6/33.

Kade Watson top scored for Lakes with eight, before taking a wicket and gaining a run out.

Thomas Hayes, August Neal, Levi Poynton and Ben Calleja also took wickets.

Hayes and Tanner

O’Donnell, who excelled behind the stumps, were

the award winners.

Bruthen Black batted first against the Maroon side at St Brendans, making 2/84 from its 20 overs, Lakes Entrance gallant in the run chase finishing at 5/74. Lucas Walker top scored for the Maroons with 10, while Eddie Stapleton impressed also getting 10.

Stapleton and Eddie Matthews picked up the match day awards.

Due to the Melbourne Cup long weekend, there will be no “B” grade and under 13 matches this weekend.

The following week, “B” grade will play St Mary’s Nagle at Nagle College, while the under 13 Maroon side will do battle with Wy Yung at Cameron White Oval, the White side welcoming Metung Swan Reach

to St Brendans.

Stand in under 13 White coach, Kevin Watson, with weekly award winners, Tanner O’Donnell and Thomas Hayes. (PS)
