East Gippsland local Sean McGee has been selected to join the Viva Energy Team for this year’s Victorian Discovery Tour de Cure, an event now in its 18th year that raises vital funds for cancer research.
The Tour de Cure continues its partnership with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) for the fifth consecutive year, funding research into cancers including breast, bowel, liver, and brain cancer. To date, the Tour de Cure has raised over $150 million and contributed to more than 200 breakthroughs in cancer research.
“I’m proud to share that I’ve been selected to ride as part of the Viva Energy Team,”
Sean said.
“Like many of you, I’ve been personally touched by cancer through family, friends, and colleagues. This year, I’ll be riding in memory of several loved ones, including my cousin’s husband Todd, my wonderful Aunty Jenny, and my mum, who sadly passed away when I was very young.”
Sean described the challenge as a new experience.
“This will be a new challenge for me — trading motorised equipment for pedal power — but I’m committed to the cause and excited to contribute in a meaningful way,” he said.
He is encouraging friends, family, and the local community to support his ride.
“I’d be incredibly grateful for your encouragement and support. If you feel moved to donate, any amount is appreciated — donations over $2 are tax deductible. Please only give if you’re able to; your well wishes mean just as much,” Sean said.
The Victorian Tour de Cure provides participants with the opportunity to make a tangible difference while challenging themselves physically, with all funds raised going directly to cancer research programs at ONJCRI.
For more information or to support Sean, donations can be made through the Tour de Cure website.
