Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC) is excited to announce the return of its much-loved Sailability program, starting on Wednesday, October 15.
Sailability is a volunteer-run initiative that makes sailing accessible to people of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities or limited mobility.
Using specially designed boats and with the support of experienced volunteers, participants can enjoy the freedom, confidence and fun of being out on the water in a safe and supportive environment.
GLYC Sailability coordinator Denise Lamble explained the program is all about inclusion.
“It provides opportunities for people who might not otherwise have the chance to experience sailing, to get out on the beautiful Gippsland Lakes and enjoy the sense of independence and joy that sailing brings,” Lamble said.
The program will run on Wednesday mornings throughout the sailing season, with participants, carers and families all welcome, and no previous sailing experience is necessary.
“If people don’t wish to sail, we are again fortunate to be able to use Burunun, owned by Aaron Hill of Hills Marine. This large boat takes participants and carers for a trip around the lakes to watch the sailors, and to experience the Gippsland Lakes,” Lamble said.
GLYC is calling for both participants and volunteers to get involved.
Volunteers don’t need to be sailors, with help needed both on and off the water.
