East Gippsland Newspapers retracts the following statement from a letter to the editor attributed to the GLaWAC board published last week (September 10): “The five National Party representatives in Gippsland have remained silent… they send a message to their base — that hate can go unchecked. That extremism is normalised.” East Gippsland Newspapers failed to contact these representatives for a statement, nor did it include any response. East Gippsland Newspapers in no way suggests these elected representatives condone acts of hate and regrets this oversight and apologises for any distress it may have caused.
