Bass Strait Bait and Tackle held its first Kids in Fishing Day on Saturday, September 6, and it was a huge success with more than 165 children coming through the doors.
The event was held at the Lakes Entrance Youth and Recreation Centre with children getting to interact in the many different types of fishing available around Lakes Entrance, starting with back-to-basics like knot tying all the way through to tournament fishing.
They also had interactive learning to cast and catch with Bowser, AKA their miniature Bull Terrier.
There were many stations to get information and be hands-on, a tournament boat, charter boat and custom boat all there for viewing. Fishcare, Gippsland Boat Training and Gippsland Lakes Angling Club guided young fishers and answered all their questions.
The day was supported by many local businesses who donated vouchers that went into showbags with lures and other goodies.
Owners of Bass Strait Bait and Tackle, Frank, Danielle, Lewis and Sal Milito, reported they were very happy with the outcome of the day and that it turned out bigger and better than expected.
“We could not have done it without the support of local businesses, our volunteers on the day, Lakes Entrance Basketball Association who ran the canteen and our biggest supporter/sponsor TT Lures. We now can’t wait to start planning the next one,” Danielle said.
