As part of Dementia Action Week 2025, Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH) is inviting the community to a free information session focused on how to keep your brain healthy throughout life.
The session, Healthy Habits for a Healthy Brain, will be held on Thursday, September 18, from 10.30am to noon in the Bulmer/Bakewell Room at GLCH,
18–26 Jemmeson Street,
Lakes Entrance.
GLCH dementia nurse practitioner Amanda Crombie said the event will shift the conversation from consequences to prevention.
“We know there are some risks for developing dementia that we cannot change, but there are many healthy choices we can make in our daily lives that reduce our risk. This session is about giving people practical ways to look after their brain health, today and into the future,” Amanda said.
The event will explore how the brain functions and why lifestyle choices matter, along with practical strategies for eating well as we age, supported by GLCH’s Health Promotion team.
It will also include an open forum for community members to ask questions about
dementia, memory changes and healthy ageing.
“Dementia is not just about memory loss – it is also about how the brain functions as a whole. The brain is a very complex piece of machinery and keeping it healthy is something we all need to understand,” Amanda said.
GLCH provides safe, reliable and high-quality health and wellbeing services across East Gippsland, supporting people wherever they are in their life journey. Services include medical care, allied health, aged and disability care, family support and counselling, early education and childcare and specialist health programs.
The session will be informal and interactive, with attendees encouraged to bring their questions and take part in the discussion. Everyone is welcome, and no RSVP is required.
