Bairnsdale Racing Club hosted a seven-race program last Sunday, highlighted by the running of the Lakes Entrance Cup.
Run over a mile, the 2025 edition of the cup was won by the Peter Gelagotis-trained Aria Electra ($3.30).
Gelagotis formerly trained at Moe before making the move to Caulfield, moving to Pakenham on-course to train after the closure of training at the Heath.
Gelagotis has been a training force in the Gippsland region for a couple of decades after taking over the training of the family team from Mick Gotis, the man affectionately known as ‘Chicken Mick’.
Powerful left hand whip rider Craig Newitt settled Aria Electra just off the speed, driving the six-year-old gelding under urging for a clear victory over Little Ritchie Turf ($31) and Master Polanski ($9.50).
Riding honours on the day were shared by Jake Noonan, Celine Gaudray and Teo Nugent who all rode doubles.
Seven individual trainers prepared winners.
The next meeting at the Bairnsdale Racing Club will be on Sunday, October 12.
