Melbourne has seen a local talent shine brightly at the recent Bend the Air aerial and circus competition where 16-year-old Amalie Wagner performed three aerial silks and hammock routines, securing an impressive second place and qualifying her for nationals in Queensland in January 2026. The national event is where all the highest scoring artists from around Australia come together to showcase their talents.
Amalie has been honing her skills for the past two years, training every day.
Her passion for aerial arts is evident in her performances that combine strength, grace and artistry.
According to her coach, Indi Shugg, Amalie’s innovative approach to choreography, her dynamic tricks and flair in connecting with the audience set her apart.
Amalie’s performances are not just about the physical feats, but also about creativity and storytelling.
Amalie hopes to inspire other young athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance and would like to one day fly high with her own aerial studio or dazzle crowds under the Big Top.
