Metung Lions Club has had another successful year and recently announced that at the end of the 2024/25 financial year it donated a total of $22,000 to local organisations.
Metung Primary School, Metung Fire Brigade, Arthur Grasby Students Kokoda Track Foundation, Melon’s Cottage, Nungurner Primary School, Swan Reach Primary School, Tambo Upper Primary School, Bruthen SES and Annies Cottage all received donations from the club.
“This was possible only because of community support for our fundraising projects, Lions barbecues at Bairnsdale Bunnings and the Metung market, and the 10 cent deposit return project,” a spokesperson from the Lions
Club said.
“Since the collection project began, approximately 18 months ago, we have processed over 225,000 bottles and cans. Bottles and cans can be deposited at the Metung Lions shed, St John’s Church, the new CFA site at the corner of Hardy’s Road and at Tambo Bluff.
“Recently we responded to a request to support Gabe Barnes-Hobson, a year seven student at Nagle College, for his selection to represent Australia at NBA U15 International Tournament in Abu Dhabi. We wish him and his team good luck with the tournament.”
