The scandalous and sensational life of 19th-century showgirl Lola Montez will be brought to the stage in Bairnsdale for one night only.
The award-winning production, The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez, from celebrated creators Finucane & Smith, will be held at The Forge Theatre on Friday, September 5, at 7.30pm.
The show tells the true-lies tale of Lola Montez, who toured Australia and its goldfields in 1855, leaving a trail of legendary scandal in her wake.
She famously horsewhipped the editor of the Ballarat Times for a bad review, swung down mine shafts with champagne in hand, and performed an erotic “Spider Dance” that the Sydney Morning Herald deemed “the most libertinish and indelicate performance that could be given on the public stage”.
Starring triple Best Actress Award winner Caroline Lee, a direct descendant of Lola Montez herself, the show is described as an intimate spectacle of breathtaking storytelling and jaw-dropping dance. Lee is joined by a cast of performers including burlesque goddess Maple Rose and glass-shattering diva Piera Dennerstein.
Directed by the internationally renowned Moira Finucane, the production promises to be a wild and unforgettable night of theatre.
“Lola has wanted you for five years, and she intends to have you!” Finucane said of the show’s long-awaited tour.
The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez will be performed at The Forge Theatre on Friday, September 5, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available from The Forge Theatre box office and website.
