In July the Twin Rivers Men’s Shed, based in Johnsonville, provided some support and assistance to Annie’s Cottage.
A Men’s Shed provides a safe and busy environment where men can find many things, such as feeling good about oneself, being productive, gaining new skills, contributing to the community, connecting with friends and maintaining an active body and mind, all in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship – and importantly, there is no pressure.
Annie’s Cottage offers the families of Very Special Kids a secluded and relaxing holiday experience. The cottage is located about 25km from Bairnsdale.
The property has offered many families peace, serenity and a much-needed break from their daily life.
It was established by Judith and Peter Robbins in 1990 to assist families who have children with life threatening illnesses.
Recently, some members of the Men’s Shed proudly made and donated or repaired toys for use by these special children.
It takes assistance and support from the community and government to establish a Men’s Shed and this is one way the members of the Twin Rivers Men’s Shed are giving back in response to the support they have received.
