THUMBS UP: Many thanks to the lovely family who stopped to help me when I fell over last Monday in Murphy Street, and to Tom the gentleman who also came to my rescue and walked me home. Many thanks to everyone.
THUMBS DOWN: To a dog owner at Eastwood who was observed picking up after their dog only to discard the filled plastic bag into maintained vegetation cared for by dedicated volunteers.
THUMBS DOWN: To the parents who bring their toddlers to the pool for swimming lessons then bury their heads in their mobile phones. They ignore their children who look to them from the water for encouragement and appraisal. They miss the opportunity to build their confidence in the water and, at worst, put toddler safety at risk.
Too often we see in various media formats youth undertaking unsocial behaviours of various kinds but THUMBS UP to the many youth and their leaders at the Bairnsdale Baptist Church service last Sunday. The talents of these youth with their musical and other gifts sure made me envious, but also proud, as it may be seen as a great example for others in our community if encouragement and support is given to our youth. Well done.
THUMBS UP: To all the coaches, volunteers and umpires that allow children to participate in sports every week.
THUMBS UP: To the vet clinic staff and neighbours who assisted with the car accident last Wednesday afternoon, until police and fire brigade arrived. But THUMBS DOWN to the driver who didn’t give way and caused the accident.
THUMBS DOWN: To the state of the lawns (weeds) as you enter Bairnsdale from the new Lucknow/East Bairnsdale roundabout, also the state of the Mitchell River bridge hand railing and light poles. I don’t think these have been painted for more than 30 years.
THUMBS DOWN: To the pile of loose pavers at the traffic lights opposite the shire officers. These have now been sitting there for 18 months.
