Lakes Entrance won its sixth match of the season in the East Gippsland Football Netball League reserves last Saturday during round 15 against Orbost Snowy Rovers at
Lochiel Park.
The Seagulls currently sit in sixth place
on ladder trailing fifth-placed Lindenow by eight points and four per cent with two rounds to play.
Although the possibility of sneaking into the finals is still slim, it remains unlikely, with Lakes needing to beat Boisdale Briagolong and Lucknow and rely on the Cats going down to Stratford and Wy Yung.
After an even first quarter the Seagulls set the victory up with a three-goal to one second term, opening up a 14-point advantage by half time. The Blues threatened several times but were unable to draw closer than nine points, eventually succumbing at the final siren by 13.
The competition’s leading goalkicker Noah Bottom kicked six for Lakes Entrance to take his total to 51.
The best players for the Seagulls were Matthew Duggan, Adam Lowcock, Jack Reggardo, ruckman Michael Sowden, Byron Daley and the hard-running Andrew Hatch.
There was a major upset in the thirds, with the Seagulls tasting defeat for the first time for the season, going down to last year’s premiers by 20 points.
The Blues are no slouches, currently third on the table, and they came ready to play, setting the victory up with a sensational first half where they kicked six unanswered goals to lead by 35 points at half time.
The Seagulls found their mojo in the second half, kicking six goals to four, but they never threatened victory, Orbost showing it will be a contender again in 2025.
Xavier Pepper and Charlie Graham both kicked two goals for the Seagulls, who were best served by Pepper, Thomas Graham, Blake Thomson, Bill Prior, Harper Davis and Wil Daniel.
Lakes coach Jordan Cullen will be keen
for his side to refocus with finals just around the corner.
Lakes Entrance will host Boisdale Briagolong this Saturday at the Lakeside Oval.
