Salty Beaches Roller Derby (SBRD) made waves at the Statewide Stampede – Victorian Roller Derby Tournament last weekend in Keysborough, with two local skaters hitting major milestones.
On Saturday Liz Griffiths played her final game with Team Regional Victoria (TRV) against Dragon City Roller Derby (DCRD), wrapping up seven years representing regional derby with them.
On Sunday, Liz and fellow skater Melissa Mills debuted with the Pivot City Ranges (PCR) — a merged team of Gippsland Ranges and Geelong Roller Derby — again facing DCRD in a fast-paced rematch. The day
also marked Liz’s 50th game.
While DCRD took the win in both games (TRV 94–322 DCRD, PCR 121–275 DCRD), the weekend was a celebration of growth, milestones and new opportunities for the Bairnsdale-based club.
The next round will be the semi finals which are being held in Daylesford on September 6.
If you’re interested in learning to play, the Salty Beaches Roller Derby club holds
training at 6.30pm on Fridays at the BARC on court three.
No experience is necessary, head along to a session or message SBRD on Facebook to find out how you can get rolling.
