In 1996 a keen group of people got together and formed Lakes Entrance Probus Club and enjoyed years of friendship and fun.
Many new members joined and some disappeared, but they all enjoyed interstate trips, luncheons, concerts, friendship days with the Probus Club calendar filled with events.
Membership numbers were consistent, committees were formed and the club pursued many and varied functions.
“As our world changed so did the club membership with many retired people sourcing other activities to pursue during their leisure time,” secretary Susan Evans said.
This year the club was unable to form a committee, so the hard decision was made to close the Lakes Entrance Probus Club.
“Members were a little heartened to learn that not only our club but others in the area are also suffering the same fate,” Susan said.
But not all is lost as from the associations formed during the club’s years there is now a strong friendship group that meets every Friday at the Lakes Entrance Bowls Club for morning tea. The group also enjoys attending concerts and luncheons.
“On Monday we had a final winding up of the club’s finances and we are proud to offer cheques to local organisations to allow them to continue their remarkable work. Lakes Entrance Ambulance Auxiliary, Lakes Entrance CFA and Lakes Entrance Coast Guard all received donations,” Susan said.
“The outgoing committee of the Lakes Entrance Probus Club thanks everyone involved with the club over the years and invite you to join us at the Bowls Club on any Friday morning.”
