Friends, former and present members of the Lakes Entrance Keenagers Table Tennis Club recently held a special morning tea to celebrate Bev Nugent’s 90th birthday.
Bev and her husband Peter first joined Keenagers in 2002 when it was only beginning. Unfortunately, Peter passed away in 2019, but Bev has continued to play every Monday and Thursday.
During all those years Bev has been a stalwart of the club and has held various positions including Treasurer for many years. She has also continued to represent the club as a member of the Recreation Hall Committee since 2022.
Bev has become the caterer providing morning tea each day for so long she can’t remember. Keenagers often look forward to a break and a cuppa in anticipation of what delights Bev has provided.
For some, having morning tea and a chat is as important as a hit of table tennis.
Age has not dimmed Bev’s passion and enthusiasm for table tennis which she continues to play at a high standard. A member who only recently joined Keenagers remarked, “Gee whiz, I hope that I can play as well as that when I turn 80 let alone 90.”
Bev says the friendships as well as the physical and mental exercise are important in keeping her feeling younger.
Lakes Entrance Keenagers meet for a game of table tennis every Monday and Thursday 9am to 10.30am at the Lakes Entrance Youth and Recreation Centre in Church Street and you will be warmly welcomed.
“Come have a giggle and some morning tea,” member Virginia Gerdtz said.
