While taking a break from tournaments the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club members decided to join together to celebrate some of their members’ July birthdays.
One member in particular continues her membership and playing croquet as she celebrates her 96th birthday recently.
Playing croquet has no boundaries as Elisabeth De Ross comes along each Sunday and plays a couple of games while using her mobility walker for security and balance. Movement is the best medicine as we start reaching the ripe age of maturity.
Elisabeth came to the local community of Lake Tyers in 1968 and later moved to Lake Bunga to a farming property.
She studied music and became a very prominent music teacher of the piano along with other interests of travel, farming pursuits and was a volunteer with St Brendan’s Primary School library.
Other skills Elisabeth practiced were sewing and knitting and it is known that she has produced many garments and some exquisite antique clothing for dolls.
It wasn’t long before Elisabeth heard about the game of croquet and joined in 2008, at the newly formed Lakes Entrance Croquet Club out at its initial courts on
the Lake Tyers Beach Recreation Oval. Elisabeth enjoyed playing this new game and became quite proficient and contributed in many ways with the club’s fundraising in its endeavour to achieve the eventual outcome of the Club’s new courts in Lakes Entrance.
Twenty plus members participated in a Vietnamese lunch to celebrate Elisabeth’s birthday and another member Helen Rasmussen who shared her birthday the day prior to Elisabeths.
Those present reported it was a lovely lunch with great company followed by two beautiful birthday cakes and everyone enjoyed themselves.
It is hoped that in the future the club will come together to celebrate other members’ birthdays for the month.
The club always welcomes anyone interested in joining the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club and learning the game and have the opportunity to join members in the many social activities they run. The playdays are Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings 9am for a 9.30am start.
