Buchan looks to have stolen a late ticket to the Omeo and District netball finals with an exciting win over Lindenow South in round 14 action.
The Wilmas now occupy fourth spot by two points with a winnable task in the final round when they venture up the mountain to play Swifts Creek.
Pushed back to fifth, the Swampies would need to beat the unbeaten Omeo Benambra in the final round at Lindenow South to give themselves any chance of prolonging the season for one more week.
Given the Alpine Ranges’ dominance over every other side this season, the upset is a almost impossible.
The Wilmas welcomed the Swampies to the Buchan Recreation Reserve with plenty of anticipation, knowing victory would put them in the top four, a spot that looked almost unachievable for most of the season.
In a tight match it was Buchan who had all the answers up the stretch, holding on for a brave 33-28 win, much to the delight of players and spectators.
Ladder leader Omeo Benambra cast another ominous warning to would-be challengers, eclipsing third-ranked Bruthen by an astonishing 46 goals 72-26.
In the final game Swan Reach was a 29-goal winner over Swifts Creek, 54-25, at home.
The Swans will host Bruthen in the final match of the season, the culminating of 15 rounds of competitive netball.
