Clubs in the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition (WGFNC) have voted in favour of allowing Drouin to join their competition in 2026.
The Drouin Football Club and Drouin
Hawks Netball Club currently play in the Gippsland League.
The WGFNC currently consists of Garfield, Tooradin-Dalmore, Nar Nar Goon, Warragul Industrials, Kilcunda Bass, Phillip Island, Cora Lynn, Dalyston, Korumburra Bena, Inverloch Kongwak and Koo Wee Rup.
The WGFNC undertook a Special General Meeting on Wednesday night where member clubs voted on the potential inclusion of three other league clubs for season 2026
and beyond.
The league’s board had been in discussions over the the past few months with those clubs and ensured full compliance with the AFL Victoria transfer rules (League to League).
The applicants were Pakenham Football Club and Pakenham Lions Netball Club, Drouin Football Club and Drouin Hawks Netball Club, and Officer Football Club and Rythdale Officer Cardinia Netball Club.
Officer and Pakenham both currently play in the AFL Outer East competition, the Lions in division one and Officer in Premier.
After the voting process in accordance with the WGFNC constitution, Drouin’s entry was approved, with the other two denied.
In compliance with the transfer rules, the WGFNC will follow the AFL Victoria processes, with the scheduled next step being acceptance, to determine if the member-approved applicants will join the in 2026.
The WGFNC board thanks all applicants for their time and honesty during the process and will continue to work in the best interest of community sport in their decision-making going forward.
