Films at the Bundy presents season two for 2025, starting with the wryly comic drama A Monk and a Gun on Wednesday, July 30.
The Monk And The Gun captures the wonder and disruption as Bhutan becomes one of the world’s youngest democracies.
Known throughout the world for its extraordinary beauty and its emphasis on gross national happiness, the remote Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan was the last nation to connect to the internet and television.
And if that weren’t enough change, the king announced shortly afterwards that he would cede his power to the people via their vote and a new form of government: Democracy.
The film won the Audience Award at International film festivals in Vancouver, Mumbai and Rome – a sure sign that it’s an excellent choice for your first Bundy film.
Films at the Bundy’s screening on August 28 is the Spanish drama The Room Next Door.
Featuring the highly regarded actors Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, it is described by reviewers as “a heartfelt meditation on friendship, grief and death” and explores how far one will go to support a friend in need.
The film society screens films on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Patrons are treated to high-quality audio and visual screenings of award-winning films and the opportunity to share a drink and a chat with other film lovers.
This season will also feature Finnish romantic comedy/drama Fallen Leaves, American documentary Sabbath Queen and NZ drama Tina.
Visitors are welcome to attend their first screening for free.
Doors open 7pm so you can grab a snack or enjoy a drink before play is hit at 7.30pm.
