The State Government is continuing to support boaters, fishers and the broader Gippsland community with the completion of two key jetties in the region.
The Lakes Entrance Fishing Cooperative (LEFL) South Jetty on Bullock Island and the McLoughlins Beach Jetty have been rebuilt following a $18 million package for piers and jetties across Victoria funded in the Victorian Budget 2022/23.
Gippsland Lakes is home to the largest fishing fleet in Victoria and the LEFL South Jetty plays a significant role in supporting the local economy by bringing in around 3000 tonnes of seafood each year.
The McLoughlins Beach Jetty was last upgraded in 1985 and is an important landmark of the local community as well as a popular choice for recreational boaters, anglers and sightseers who visit the area.
Works on the jetty included new fibre reinforced plastic piles, beams, deck and handrails.
The completion of the new McLoughlin’s Beach Jetty follows the February completion of works on the new LEFL South Jetty on Bullock Island.
“The McLoughlin’s Beach Jetty is a much-loved landmark for the local community, and we’re thrilled to see it rebuilt and ready to support locals and visitors for many more years,” Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said.
“This critical investment in our local piers and jetties ensures our vital Gippsland fishing and tourism industries can flourish and continue to deliver for the regional economy.”
