Hundreds of primary and secondary school students from from Orbost to Maffra came together at Boucher Hall in Bairnsdale last Thursday evening to celebrate the 38th East Gippsland Music Festival Gala.
Each year students from the participating schools practice together prior to the presentation concert evening, this year the students gathering for a week of workshops in
the lead up.
Retired leader of Music in Schools, John Rogers, and his wife, Robyn, were in the front row while evergreen musician John Smith mixed his musical talents with the new and upcoming maestros of Music in Schools. Musicians’ talent ranged from those who have played instruments for just 12 months to senior students of music whose skills delighted the audience.
Relatively new Orbost Secondary College vice principal, Anthony Walker, said from his teaching days in England he had never seen so many schools come together in one place to produce such a productive and positive environment for
students.
Long term and current leader of Music in Schools, Gerry Ciavarella, led a wonderful evening of entertainment to the packed audience.
