Tricky terrain at Valencia Creek

Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club's June ride was held in picturesque bush north or Bruthen. (PS)

Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club will host its next ride at Valencia Creek on Sunday, July 20.

The ride will be led by local club members Caz Driscoll and Karen Brown.

Caz and Karen, with the assistance of Sally Bass and other club members, have mapped out an interesting ride which takes in a variety of terrain with great views. A lot of work has gone in to checking the tracks after the recent rain and wind events.

The ride is medium to hard and horses will need to be shod or wear boots as the

terrain is steep and rocky in sections. Horses should have a medium to good level of fitness.

The ride will leave from the “Avon – Mt Hendrick Natural Features Scenic Reserve” on the corner of Wombat Rd and Okeefe Road, Valencia Creek.

Ride out will be 10am sharp, returning at 2.30pm approximately. A compulsory unmounted muster will be held prior to the ride at 9.45am. Riders should bring a saddlebag lunch.

The June ride was held in picturesque bush north or Bruthen. Eighteen riders set out led by stand-in lead rider Dianna McCormack. The start was delayed while a large tree was cleared after falling overnight across the access road.

The group then set off with the horses moved along calmly, handling the bush tracks with ease. Yvette Waller came along on her lovely young buckskin stockhorse, “Patrick”. Yvette handled the group riding situation with ease and finished the day very happy with her horses first outing with the club.

Sarah Wilson joined in on her second club ride back after a long break on her Clydesdale cross gelding “Beau”.

The riders arrived back to a campfire and barbecue lunch.

The group arrived back to a large welcoming fire and enjoyed a barbecue lunch before loading their horses up to head home.

The annual general meeting for the club will be held in Room 1 at The Hub, Dalmahoy Street on Thursday, July 24, at 7pm. All members and invited to attend to assist with organising the 2025-26 ride calendar.

Tambo Upper Trail Rides are held in different locations on the third Sunday of every month. New members are always welcome and children are also welcome but must be able to ride independently. Ride calendars are available on the club Facebook page or at your local saddler.

For further details contact Caroline Driscoll or Sue Cullinan.
