Lakes Entrance made it three wins from its last four matches in the East Gippsland Football Netball League (EGFNL) reserves competition, comprehensively defeating Paynesville by 126 points at the
Lakeside Oval.
After a relatively subdued opening which the saw the Seagulls leads at quarter time by 11 points, they put the foot on the gas in the second term, kicking eight unanswered second term goals to put the match out of the reach of the Gulls, who managed only two goals for the match.
Thirds goalkicking star Charlie Graham was exciting up forward kicking six, combining well with Noah Bottom (five goals) and Ben Purnell (four), while young Kurt Grabham (three) and Ben Rotheram (two) also hit the scoreboard in a busy forward 50.
Rotheram returned from injury and his addition in the senior side after the competition bye will only only strengthen the club’s growing depth.
Charlie Goold was best afield in a stellar performance off half back, chipping in as an extra midfielder, continually driving the ball forward.
Goold, although roughly skilled, has the intestinal fortitude to become a regular senior player in defence if the opportunity presents.
He was ably assisted in a side that had more winners than losers by Grabham, James Van Oosterom, Graham, Byron Daley and Purnell.
Despite the easy victory, the Seagulls still sit sixth on the ladder four points behind current incumbents Orbost Snowy Rovers and Lindenow.
The Blues and Cats both scored upset victories last Saturday defeating Stratford (second) and Lucknow (third) respectively.
All clubs in the EGFNL will enjoy a much appreciated week of this week with the Seagulls’ next match against Stratford at Boyd Reserve.
