Lakes Entrance croquet players continue to participate in regional tournaments during the winter weather.
Corry Schreuders and David Barrett played in the Traralgon Doubles Tournament in early June, placing third in section one with four wins and
three losses.
The following weekend Barrett, Schreuders, Jan Norwood and Julie Drummond travelled to Sale for their handicap doubles tournament.
Barrett partnered with Drummond finishing fourth in section one, Norwood partnering Marjorie Prendergast from Wonthaggi, finishing sixth in the same division.
Schreuders paired with a Sale player Norm Hyde finishing runner-up in section two.
Seven members of the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club travelled to Bairnsdale for their annual 19
Hoop Tournament on the last weekend in June.
Drummond and Rhonda Smith competed in section one, Ivana Thomson in division two, with Schreuders, Barrett and Norwood competing against each other in section three, while Helen Rasmussen played in division four.
Although the mornings were a chilly start, Bairnsdale put on some beautiful sunny days for these long games of 19 hoops that can take between one and a half to two hours to complete, depending on how many hoops were run.
All players enjoyed the long format of golf croquet and Lakes Entrance emerged with two players among the placegetters.
Smith came in as runner-up to Richard Parks from Williamstown, only being pipped by three hoops, after four players finished on three wins and two losses.
Schreuders took out first place
in section three with four wins and one loss.
Lakes Entrance Croquet Club always welcomes interested members of the community who would like to come and try the game of golf croquet.
Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings are the club’s play
days, with a 9am for a 9.30am start at Don Road.
