Community Sewing East Gippsland had some special visitors to their weekly get together at the Lakes Entrance Coastguard rooms recently.
The group meets every Tuesday to sew, knit, crochet or do any other crafty task and enjoy encouragement, advice and most importantly the companionship of others. It is a project of Gippsland Lakes Lionesses.
They produce products for many charities, hospitals, retirement homes and anyone in need of their creations.
Last Tuesday, residents from Opal Parklands made the journey from Bairnsdale to visit and enjoyed meeting and chatting with the group and witnessing what they create. The ladies from Opal were keen to learn what was made and admired the craftsmanship, they were happy to watch while patchwork quilts were worked on, and the knitting circle busied themselves.
A lovely morning tea, provided by Opal Parklands, was enjoyed by all and each resident was presented with a gift of a scarf and tissue holder. In addition, the sewing
group donated four crocheted rugs to the Parklands facility.
They also recently donated and distributed 53 beanies to the Oncology Department at Bairnsdale Regional Hospital which were gratefully received.
The group welcome any new members and invite those interested to drop in at the Coastguard building on any Tuesday. They gladly take donations of wool, fabric or any other craft materials.
