Strong community support

4 July 2025
in Local News

Following the success of last year’s first Tour de Tambo, it’s happening again on Sunday, July 6.

The Tour de Tambo is a self-guided cycling experience from Swifts Creek to Ensay.

Last year, the family-friendly ride attracted more than 60 participants with positive feedback from the cyclists highlighting the scenic route, smooth organisation and strong community involvement.

Many riders were visiting the area for the first time, helping to put Swifts Creek and Ensay on the map as emerging cycling destinations.

This year, local groups again will play a key role in delivering the event and aim to welcome around 100 participants.

East Gippslanders interested in having a family day and heading up to the Tambo Valley are encouraged to register and join the ride.

As you ride, you’ll hear the gurgling and rippling of the river making its way over the rocks and through the riverside foliage of wattles, eucalypts and other native species.

At a length of 186 kilometres, the Tambo River is one of the longest rivers in the East Gippsland drainage basin. The landscape is relatively open rolling hills used for farming, surrounded by a horizon of incredible high country scenery in the distance.

Soak up the beautiful scenery and warmth of the Tambo Valley in the winter sunshine.

Swifts Creek sits on the banks of the Tambo River while Ensay is at the junction of the Tambo and Little rivers. It’s well known for producing prime beef cattle and wine. The Little River Inn at Ensay started as a shack in the 1840s and is believed to be the oldest hotel in East Gippsland where you can get a good pub meal and budget accommodation.

Tour de Tambo promises a unique blend of natural beauty, local hospitality and community spirit that captures the heart of East Gippsland for seasoned cyclists and those looking for a scenic day out with family.
